Baby Room – Caterpillars

Caterpillar

Our bright, stimulating baby room is full of wonderful experiences for babies and young children aged between 3 months and two years (or until they are mobile and ready for the next transition into nursery.) A vast range of materials and resources are provided to stimulate and inspire young developing minds. We have created a caring and loving ‘home from home’ environment where our babies and young children feel safe and secure.

Opportunities to explore the environment and use their senses are provided through treasure baskets, bursting with natural everyday objects that are rich in texture, colour, shapes and smells, whilst our Shanti cots provide children with a cosy area to rest and sleep, or to simply have a quiet few minutes reading a book.

The daily routine is very flexible in the baby room to ensure that we meet the needs of your baby; a key person will ensure that your baby is cared for and has lots of cuddles, whilst working closely with you and following your baby’s routine to ensure continuity between home and nursery.

Please feel free to call in and experience our baby room for yourself – once you have visited Happy Tots and decided that you would like a place, we will arrange some settling-in visits – these visits are invaluable and will give us the opportunity to begin to build important relationships with you and your child. Visits are not limited – it is more important that we help your child feel happy and settled to ensure a smooth transition from home to nursery.

We understand that leaving your child for the first time can be upsetting for you and sometimes, for your child. You are more than welcome to stay in nursery as long as you want, and please be assured that when you feel ready to leave your child for a short period of time, their key person will spend time with them, helping them settle in.

2-3yr old – Ladybirds

Caterpillar

The nursery consists of 3 rooms on the ground floor for our ‘ladybird’ group, offering a wide range of equipment and exciting activities for our 2 – 3 yr olds; children are able to access the red, blue and yellow room, where they can safely explore, develop and learn.

We have created a lovely cosy feel in the blue room, with a home corner which is equipped with items that you’d find in your own kitchen to enable children to wash and iron, bake a cake or sit and have dinner together. There is also a ‘lounge area’ where children can read a magazine, make a phone call or simply have a chat with their friends. The sofa and cushions create an area where children can relax and have some quiet time alone or with a small group of children, reading a book or playing a game together. Story sacks give children opportunities to develop their imaginative skills as they re-tell stories about the Bear-hunt or Billy’s bucket.

In our red room, children can explore the creative workshop and painting area, helping themselves to a selection of paints, pom poms, glue, glitter, cellotape and scissors and lots more to create a masterpiece to take home.

The sand and water area offers scope for imaginative play, as well as science and maths, as children are able to help themselves to resources that will enable them to pour, mix, measure quantities, compare textures, dig tunnels and bury treasure.

You will find small world, construction and the music area in the yellow room; The construction and small world area offers lots of opportunities for imagination such as ‘constructing a rocket for an expedition to the moon’, ‘building a tower for the princess’ or ‘discovering a volcano in the land of dinosaurs.’

Our music area is stocked with a variety instruments such as maracas, drums, bells, symbols, keyboards, microphones, a CD player and much more – children can create their own instruments, explore sounds, sing-a-long to their favourite tunes or perform to ‘Frozen’ and ‘Little Mix.’

Pre- School – Busy Bees

Caterpillar

Our Pre-school Group is located on the first floor for our busy bees – all rooms are easily accessed from the safe and secure landing area. Children are able to free-flow between rooms to encourage freedom of choice and develop independence.

In the blue room, children can create imaginative stories in the small world area or work on the construction site, building and measuring and re-creating iconic structures.

Our home corner is situated in the green room, with a fully equipped kitchen and lounge area to enable our little busy bees get creative in the kitchen, set the table for tea, or ‘get cosy’ and read a book with friends on the sofa or cushions.

ICT, maths and mark-making resources are also accessible in the green room which offer opportunities to count, match, sort, compare and develop pre-writing skills.

The creative area can be found in the red room, where children can ‘get messy’ in the painting area and creative work shop, create a beach scene and develop scientific skills in the sand and water area or practice counting and develop fine motor skills in the baker’s shop in the playdough area.

Having Fun at Happy Tots

Our enclosed outdoor play area offers stimulating features and sensory areas such as water, sand, den-making and a mud kitchen where children can have great fun making mud pies and baking mud cakes…. Yum! Our children can have great fun exploring outdoors, jumping in puddles, planting seeds and going on bug hunts.

Petite Acting Academy visits us weekly to entertain the children with a variety of music, movement and dance, and Coach Brian visits us twice per week, at the church hall next door, where children have opportunities to participate in physical games using cones, nets and footballs – very popular with the children. (Parents are also welcome!)

Coach Brian from Little Kickers is very popular with all our children – he delivers football sessions twice per week to give children a positive introduction to sport so they’re more likely to stay healthy and active throughout their lives. Little Kickers sessions stimulates imagination and aids early development skills such as learning colours and numbers, following instructions and playing as a team.

Anthony (from Inspire Sports Development Ltd) visits us every Friday afternoon to deliver Yoga classes to the children. Yoga helps to maintain flexibility and strengthen growing bodies, enhance concentration. increase self-esteem, spark creativity, encourage kind peer and social interactions, enhances body awareness, teach discipline and responsibility.
