Meals and Snacks

Mealtimes and snacks are an enjoyable and social occasion at Happy Tots. All food is prepared and cooked on the premises. Our menus are carefully planned and rotated every 4 weeks to ensure that all children get an interesting and varied choice of meals that are enjoyable and nutritious.

A breakfast buffet is provided in nursery, where children can choose from a selection of toast, fruit and cereals as well as milk and water. Staff encourage children to make their own choices and help them to become independent as they butter their own toast and pour themselves a drink of milk. When our babies are old enough, they can also have toast, fresh fruit and a drink of milk or water.

A cooked meal and pudding is provided for lunch in the baby room and nursery, and a tea is provided late afternoon. A snack is provided mid-afternoon. Our older children are able to serve themselves at mealtimes and pour their own drinks; staff encourage them to help the younger children. This creates a positive ethos in the nursery where children develop necessary caring skills to look after and help each other.

Fresh drinking water is available throughout the day, and little ones are reminded to have a drink, as they sometimes forget when engrossed in play.

For babies under 12 months who still require formula milk, we ask that parents provide bottles and formula, and the staff can make bottles as required. You may provide your own food for your baby until you feel that he / she is ready to have nursery meals; you can discuss this with the staff and they will make sure that your child is provided with meals pureed or mashed to the consistency of your choice. We will also puree / mash food for children who have difficulty swallowing solid/chunky food.
